Subcommittees

TCD Law Society’s subcommittees drive some of our most important initiatives, from charitable fundraising and supporting women in law to outreach programmes and promoting diversity and equality within the legal profession.

Trinity Women in Law (TWIL)

The Women in Law (TWIL) is the Trinity College Dublin Law Society’s dedicated initiative focused on supporting, celebrating, and advancing women in the legal profession.

Through panel discussions, networking events, workshops, mentoring opportunities, and speaker engagements, TWIL provides members with the opportunity to hear from leading practitioners, judges, academics, and students about their experiences in law. The programme aims to foster meaningful conversations on gender equality, professional development, leadership, and the challenges and opportunities facing women in the legal sector today.

TWIL welcomes all members of the Society and seeks to create an inclusive space where students can connect with peers and professionals, gain valuable insights into legal careers, and contribute to ongoing discussions about the future of the profession.

Outreach Subcommittee

The Outreach Subcommittee is dedicated to widening access to legal education and encouraging participation in higher education among secondary school students, particularly those from underserved and underrepresented communities. Through school visits, workshops, mentoring initiatives, and information sessions, the subcommittee seeks to demystify the study of law and provide students with greater awareness of the opportunities available to them at third level.

By engaging directly with schools and students, the Outreach Subcommittee aims to inspire the next generation of legal professionals and ensure that access to legal education is not limited by background or circumstance.

Charities Subcommittee

The Charities Subcommittee oversees the Law Society’s charitable initiatives and fundraising activities throughout the academic year. Working closely with the Society’s chosen charity partner, the subcommittee organises a range of events designed to raise both funds and awareness for important causes.

In recent years, the Society has proudly partnered with organisations including Dublin Simon Community and Women’s Aid. The subcommittee is responsible for some of the Society’s most popular annual events, including Charity Boxing, the Big Fat Trinity Wedding, and Law Day, all of which bring members together in support of a shared cause.

Through these initiatives, the Charities Subcommittee seeks to make a meaningful contribution to the wider community while fostering a strong culture of social responsibility within the Society.

Diversity and Equality

The Diversity & Equality (D&E) Subcommittee is the Law Society’s newest initiative, dedicated to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity within the legal profession and wider society. Through panel discussions, networking events, workshops, and speaker engagements, the subcommittee provides a platform for meaningful conversations on representation, accessibility, equality, and social justice.

D&E seeks to highlight the experiences and perspectives of individuals from a broad range of backgrounds, while fostering an inclusive environment where all members feel welcome and represented. By bringing together students, practitioners, academics, and advocates, the subcommittee aims to contribute to a more diverse and equitable future for the legal profession.
